2011 MD 2020

Well, we're one week out.  We got the bonus locations two days ago.

This years MD2020's theme is the '500'.   Given that it's the 100th anniversary of the 500 seems fitting.

As most of you know we start in Hagerstown, MD.

This year the Rally Bastard is just that.   One thing I've always enjoyed about the MD2020 is that Rick (aka RallyBastard), offers up some really out of the way places to visit with respect to boni.   Given that the entire east coast is covered in good riding, he normally sees to it that you're required to put in some serious miles on some seriously twisty roads.   Generally one would welcome this unless it's in the dead of night as is often required.  Still all things considered, the MD2020 almost always contains good roads.

Jump to this year.

I open up the rally book.   Lay out my boni in SnT and Garmin MapSource.

"Get the big rocks and stay on the big roads" is always the goal. 

This year is gonna suck.  The RallyBastard has outdone himself this year.   Think 1600+ miles, all slab.   Think Manhattan, DC and Indianapolis if you want a good finish.  Ugh.

Kyle and I are in.  Dad is sitting this one out.    I'll report back once we've ridden it.

Yet another year I won't be able to do this rally. I did notice last night that they have a bonus in Pikeville, Ky and a few others rather close to me. None are too big point wise though.

Oh, why are you not going for the Wyoming bonus? And why is Key West no longer the sucker bonus listing?

I would go to Wyoming and back if I could make it in 30 hours.  That's the new Sucker bonus, with Indy included...   Sat is race festivities and parade n shit, Sunday the race, and it appears the bonus is the front of the track.   Nice...

Add to that the Iwo Jima memorial and Battery Park on Memorial day weekend.

Someone seriously pissed off the RallyMaster...   We have a plan, go big or go home...  We may very well DNF but it won't be for lack of trying.  Add all that up with the wonderful weather we're supposed to get.

Had we had just a tad bigger balls we'd of won.  We cut out a few boni, we apparently  had time to get.  Still we finished 4th and 5th.   Apparently I spent fewer miles circling bonus locations looking for shit than Kyle did hence the difference between 4th and 5th.  We had the same number of points but I had fewer miles (by like less than one I believe).

It *appears*, that Bill who originally won, is getting bumped to 5th, Kurt who was third is now 1st, and Kyle jumps from 5th to 3rd.

He and I had the exact same points, 783.22 if I recall correctly with less than 2 points separating 1st - 5th.

Apparently a bad sort, put me ahead of Kyle in terms of corrected mileage.   Which is fine, although he and I both agree he rode more miles than me (but probably less than 2) as he circled around a couple bonus locations, had to back track to an ATM, and took off the wrong way at another.

I'm good with it though.   

That is my understanding as of today but that could change again. 

Yep, current plans include the_Void.

Yep, turns out a paperwork error, punts Bill from 1st to 3rd, and Kurt from 3rd to first, and Kyle from 5th to 3rd.
