After 26 years I returned to motorcycling. I love touring usually by myself. Two and a half years and 32,000 miles ago I bought a Honda VTX 1300R. It is great. It is comfortable for me. I did have Mean City Cycles rework my seat and I use a Bead Rider for hot or rainy weather. I have two SS1000s,
one BB1500, and Master Traveler IBA rides under my butt.
I am thinking about changing my touring machine. I would like some input. I have a short inseam. I will only consider liquid cooled (oil head BMW is OK), and shaft drive. I need to be able to change the bend of my knees often. I am an old fart and parts of me get stiff that shouldn't.
I don't want a 'Wing unless my wife begins riding with me. I have shortened the list down to first choice BMW R1200RT (lowered version) and second choice Triumph Rocket III. I will ride both before buying. Also I have considered Honda ST1300, although I like my Honda Dealer, when only on a short ride it seems a little uncomfortable the way my knees are bent. The BMW seems to have more +'s. Also if I stay with a V-twin, the Suzuki C109 would be my replacement. The R1200RT might handle gravel better.
