O.K., this weekend I only rode 100 miles. I'm riding to work tomorrow. Don't know how much I'm gonna get in before Dec. Next weekend (Nov. 14-15) I've got to goto Nashville, driving a U-haul for family. So, the weekend after, Nov 21-22, is the weekend before Thanksgiving, and I can get a kitchen pass. I was thinking I might do a SS1k or attempt a BBG. Any one want to go? If I'm solo, I will probably leave from Pikeville and go south down US23/I-26 to I-95 and south as necessary (probably JAX for a SS1k with plenty of extra milage or Cocoa Beach for a BBG). If someone wants to run south on I-75 we could meet either in Lex or London and just run south for the turn around. Looking at down and back routes, as they are the easiest to document without being one-way.
Any takers?

That is about 750, almost exactly by my truck odo. A good BB/BBG ride out and back. I think that next weekend we are going to just do a 500-600 straight south on I-75 and back. Start/finish in Lex. Ky.

As much as I'd love to do this, I don't think it's in the cards.
*Mebe* I just be a witness for yall.
Keep me posted though, if I can shoe-horn it into the schedule and budget I will.

It looks like if one were to leave from Lexington, say oh, from that Shell station Stanton Way, one would need to drive straight down to just south of Ocala, to the exit just before the turnpike where one could stop at the Wildwood Travel Center on SR-44, then turn around and go back to the previously mentioned Shell station.
trip: 1500 Miles, 22hours, 53 minutes, which doesn't factor in stops for fuel, so one would need to be hauling to do a BBG.
there is Construction south of Tifton GA that would worry me and you'd have to ride through Atlanta.
If on departed the Shell at 0500, you'd hit Atlanta sometime between Noon and 2pm the next day on the way down and 10pm-12pm on the way back. Give or take.
there is also construction in Atlanta. So maybe just a regular BB is in order.

Scott and I are going to do a SS1k. Since Scott isn't in the IBA, we need to do a SS or BB, no BBG this time. We will be working on Scott's schedule since he is on 3rd shift, and I am more flexible. That means we will leave in the evening of Saturday, say between 6p and 9p. Through Atl. in the wee hours, and back will still be at the right time for Sunday. Biggest prob will be Chattanooga to Knoxville on the return, as it will be prime "going back home" time for Sunday, on a crowded road. Turn around will be somewhere south of Macon but no farther than Valdosta (Valdosta is 600mi). Our start/finish point will be at US 60 / I-75, exit 110. At least that's what I got worked out right now. All plans are subject to change at the whim of Sir Cooter, or myself. (the best laid plans ....)

Looks like Lex to Sycamore, Ga is 540 miles, which gives a nice cushion, and avoids 2 of the 3 major construction sites in S. Ga. Hope this works out.

I say we leave a couple hours earlier than that so we finish before the rush.

Are y'all planning an all interstate route? I've never done an SS1K before...I'm assuming its possible to do it without droning along on I-xx for hours on end?

Sounds good... I'll be happy to be a witness on either end of the trip, though for a SS you can use anyone that isn't riding with you including your wive(s). Stay hydrated, and take lots of snacks/hard candy to snack on. (flip up helmets rule for this). DON'T LOSE YOUR RECEIPTS!

Cooter, what ever time you want, we do. I am on your schedule for this one. Ty, yes you can, but it is much harder the farther east that you are. I would say you wound need to be at least Indiana or west in the North or Miss. or west in the south. Farther east and you have too many cities too close together with too many stoplights. BTW, I am including 4-lane highways that bypass cities as the equivalent of interstate, since they act like interstates. interstates are the easiest way, obviously. We are going all interstate on this one, mostly because we are really too far east AND its too late in the season to mess around this far north. A run south gets us the best chance for better weather and completion. Matt, Yup, we know. Cooter is already laughing because I am thinking about putting a drink holder on my handlebar. (Hmm, if Delaware still does not have an open container law, I could get some chaps, ride around without a helmet and have a cold PBR in the holder, and be a REAL Biker )
