The story
« on: September 26, 2009, 02:36:12 PM »
Well as yall might know, Ada became real sick in 2005 and we had to cut our trip to North GA short. Later that year her mother passed and our lives stopped. I ain,t going into details but a 200 acre farm aint no fun to take care of. I say that, but let me say when you have a full time job and she has a full time job and then you add 200 acres to that, then it becomes no fun.
Four years have passed and things are starting to improve. The main court case is over and the greedy family members have been sent home packing empty handed. Ada has had three surgeries and she is feeling better every day. The track is a money pit and the future aint so bright. The HVAC work in going great and I have added two trucks and two techs. The ST was sold several years ago as was the Black Bird. Ada's XR was sold last year and We had giving into the idea that we would not be touring anymore. Ada still has the bandit 600 and I have a bandit 1250. Neither bike will two up worth a shit. They are great for blasting around there, but Ada's riding days are numbered. All good things must come to an end and that is what we are faced with.
I have always dreamed of touring the U.S.A. on a bike. This has been my dream. When Ada and I married it became our dream. Guys We did a lot of the Eastern states. We rode adventure bikes, sport touring bikes, hell we even made trips on a naked bandit. From 2001 to 2005 we made no less than 15 trips to Deal's Gap. Twice we went to Bikes Blues and BBQ in AR. Ada and I have made some friends hell we made alot of friends. I think that several of these friendships will last a life time, but Ada is and will always be my best friend. Life changes and we have to learn to except change, End of story!
Where do we go from here. Ada and I talked and she said go ride with out me. No! That aint going to happen. Find a good bike that we can two up on. Now there is a idea. So where do we start. Fun to ride, comfort, power, good looking. We looked at H.D.'s   BMW's   Honda's   . After we spent endless hours and miles of driving and looking I soon found that I could not afford any of these. The price of a new bike is crazy. I just can't swing a new bike or the payment. So off to the internet to search for something that we could do.
Ada found a bike on the net in AL that was in our price range. Last Sunday we went and picked it up. A 2008 Goldwing with 2002 miles on the clock. We saved it from becoming a trike.
I type real slow and I have to go to work to pay for the wing. I will post some pics and all the good stuff later tonight.
Sorry for the long drawn out story.

Wow!   2000 miles on a used 'Wing.   Seems like that has to be a rare find.

Those are great bikes.   I've found myself looking at them more than once.   If I didn't have so many family obligations and could actually take some vacation I might already have one.

Congrats on the new purchase.   I think you and Ada will enjoy the trips together.

And post some pictures, already!!    ;D

Our new ride.

Very cool.   It looks brand new.   That should be a great tourer.

You and Gar can have dueling stereos.   ;D :D

Holly Crap that thing is big!    Ada and I took our first ride on the Wing yesterday. When you get the beast past 3 or4 MPH it's great, but low speed stuff sux. I found myself having to make a u turn on an old two lane and that was not fun at all. The old coulpe that had the bike rode it with like 15 LBS of air in the tires and so the tires are cupped out so bad it sounds like riding in the sons truck with mud grips tires.  ::)  We have not managed to adjust the preload correctly yet and big bumps in the road will bounce Ada off the seat    :o  Add to that we have not riden any kind of miles in a long time and we rode 300 yesterday. My ass still hurts.

But we love it!!!!!!!

With Gar and now Mark getting "old man" bikes, maybe this place should be called "Old Man Touring.net" or "Retiree Touring.net".

All kidding aside Mark, that wing is purdy and I hope it allows you and Ada to have many more happy miles on two wheels.
Ride On!

Matt Hell no I ain't got heat, Ada and I bought the base model. No seat heat and No grip heaters and no Nav.
Just plain jane wing.

But I think that we could make the New years day ride. That means I would have to give up my one day of motocross. I sux at it anyway  ::)

I have a spare gerbings liner that *might* fit one of ya.

No controller or pig tail though.  My wife isn't likely to use it any time soon.  Prolly would fit ADA if you need to borrow it :)

Thanks but just hang on to it for now. We are adding things as we find that we need them. I will have to install two power ports and change to aux cable to the radio for the Ipod. Ada has a blackberry phone and with that we can down load all the tunes or connect to XM.

I have taken the running boards off and put the stock pegs back on. I had to change the tires today because the stock tires were cupped bad.
