VMD, AHRMA and AMA
« on: May 01, 2009, 02:42:45 PM »
Yesterday AMA severed its relationship with AHRMA. I won't go into the details why, if you want to know that, check out ahrma.org for their side of the story.

Why I posted is that the major impact on most here is VMD. AMA owns VMD, thus AHRMA will not be sanctioning / running the races at VMD this year. I don't know how many disciplines of racing they will have this year, but the road racing will probably be run directly by AMA. Due to this I don't believe they will have any modern singles or twins racing, and therefore I will most likely not be racing at VMD this year. Julie and I are still planning to be there though. VMD will surely be different this year. Maybe for the better. I don't know. I'm guessing a little smaller (which is good by me) for a few years.

I guess I'm glad I was waiting to re-new my AHRMA membership, as VMD was the biggest reason I licensed through AHRMA.

AMA has formed there own vintage organization.

The big enticement being that racers will now get to compete for national championships which offer an AMA #1 plate.

You also haven't thought far enough down this road to realize this will boot AHRMA out of Bike Week as well.

I don't see AHRMA surviving this at a level comparable to their egos.

I did see that far down the road (Daytona). Just wasn't bringing it up at this point.
