First and foremost, I'm perfectly fine.   2nd so is the FJR courtesy of the new crash bars.  At least most of it.   I'll need to have some work done on my left rear bag, and I already have a replacement left mirror that I bought online, so damage was minimal.

During my commute to work yesterday I went into an intersection, making a left hand turn.   Next thing I know, my head's bouncing off the pavement and I'm sliding down the road.   *BAM* that fast.  I was going about 20 mph (guestimate).  The road I was on was 45mph, I made the light and didn't have to stop.

Fortunately for me, there was an ambulance waiting at the light.  The EMT's jumped out and said "Dude, you OK?"

I checked, had all my digits, and extremities.  and said yeah, can you help me pick up the bike?

So we did.  They asked if I wanted them to call it in to get a police report.   Nobody was hurt, I didn't hit anything, so uh, no.

Turns out there was some pretty slippery shit in that intersection.  Very oily.  Maybe diesel fuel?

Some photos are posted on my website here: http://www.dishers.com/2009/03/17/fjr-crash-bars-a-good-investment

I have already ordered a new helmet, my jacket is fine, so are my gloves.   My jeans are ruined, well, they'll be jean shorts.  (I normally commute in Jeans, but will rethink that).   If it hadn't been so slick my leg might be a little more hurt.

So all's well that ends well.

And now I'm no longer a virgin.   And I think I still have 3 fewer crashes than Mac so it's all good.

Vehicles that leak diesel fuel are the most evil things on earth. Had a similar thing happen years ago on the F650. But not an intersection, just a sharp low speed curve on a country road. When I stood up, I fell back down, it was that slick. Sounds like you came out just fine. Hey, if you don't goto the hospital, its not a crash, just a drop!! Wink

Do they salt it your area? Maybe there has`nt been enough rain to wash it off yet.
I know it`s all over the place here. In the morning when they`re damp even my concours can do a smokin burnout.   Hey at least youre not in traction and poopin in a bedpan. Grin

Glad the bike and especially you are OK.   20 mph doesn't sound fast until you're tumbling down the road under a heavy bike.   Shocked

Everybody's probably heard my diesel fuel story, but it caused my first "drop" almost exactly 30 years ago.    Very bad stuff on the street and very hard to see.

I probably should have taken a sample Smiley

It was very oily.   I lean more towards oil/coolant than dieslel but I could be wrong.   It was still there the next day but is gone now.  Wasn't salt or sand tho.

- it's all good now.

Do you think dropping the clutch at 6,ooo rpm could be a factor?
Were ya feeling a little squidly that morning? Grin

That was taken in some little town in Colorado last year.
